Cupping Therapy

Cupping therapy is one of the oldest and most effective method of releasing the toxins from body tissue and organs. It is also known as vacuum cupping, hijama cupping, horn treatment etc. It is a practice in which the therapist puts special cups on the skin to create suction. This causes the tissue beneath the cup to be drawn up and swell causing increase in blood flow to affected area. Enhanced blood flow under the cups draws impurities and toxins away from the nearby tissues and organs towards the surface for elimination.

ElectroTherapy

Electrotherapy is a method of medical treatment which uses electric current to the affected areas. It is mostly used by experienced physiotherapists to treat a variety of conditions ranging from muscle pain to arthritis.

Back Pain

Recent guidelines recommend advice and non-pharmacological management such as physiotherapy interventions that include exercise and manual therapy. Acupuncture is now only recommended by the ACP for the management of individuals with back pain.  A recent study carried out by Ford et al suggests that individualised Physiotherapy for people with LBP, utilizing a Specific Treatment of Problems of the Spine (STOPS) approach, may be more effective in managing LBP. To direct these treatment plans stratified care has been suggested as an appropriate approach.

Deformity Treatment

A deformity is an abnormality in the musculoskeletal make up. Deformities can cause pain, discomfort and restriction to normal movement. There can be a variety of causes for deformities to occur, varying in the level of disability caused to the individual. Physiotherapy treatment can offer assistance to improve function and independence.

There are a variety of conditions and injuries which can cause deformities to occur in a person. Some of the most common causes are:

  • Birth defect ( underdeveloped limbs and foetal position)

  • Neurological conditions (contractures)

  • Acute injury (fracture / dislocation)

  • Sarcoma removal

  • Amputation

  • Arthritis

Depending on the severity of the deformity will depend on the affect it has on the individual’s life. Physiotherapy can assist improve independence and functional daily activities.

Trigger-point dry needling is an invasive procedure where a fine needle or accupuncture needle is inserted into the skin and muscle. It is aimed at myofascial trigger points (MTrP) which are hyperirritable spots in skeletal muscle that are associated with a hypersensitive palpable nodule in a taut band. Trigger point dry needling can be carried out at superficial or deep tissue level.
